As the lead designer, I collaborated with a team of four designers, PMs, and engineers to define product requirements and establish a clear design direction from the start.

I led the end-to-end design process, including sprint planning, design system development, UI testing, and developer handoff to ensure smooth implementation across the product.

Context behind

This app was designed for a US-based Charter School that helps adults without high school diplomas to start a new life by teaching them basic life skills and making them job ready. The school has 76 campuses in the state and has 15,000+ students and 200+ staff.

A community for low-income immigrants and refugees, focuses on breaking language barriers, enhancing digital literacy, and facilitating college degree. The ultimate aim is to empower individuals for better job prospects in the USA.

Understanding the core challenges

Many students came from displaced and underserved backgrounds, carrying language, financial, and accessibility barriers. The platform needed to simplify everyday campus interactions while making learning, support, and reporting more accessible and transparent.

User Base

Students across varied age groups required flexible and adaptive experiences.

The platform served a highly diverse community of adult learners, immigrants, and refugees between the ages of 20–60. Many students were balancing education with work, family responsibilities, and language adaptation in a new country.

Design decisions focused on accessibility, familiarity, and reducing cognitive load across every interaction. The goal was to create a supportive and easy-to-navigate learning ecosystem for all user groups.

Through workshops, interviews, surveys, and stakeholder discussions, we uncovered a recurring pattern across the campus experience — students struggled to access the right resources at the right time, while staff relied heavily on manual coordination and assumptions instead of real-time data.

The research process was highly iterative, where new questions continuously emerged as we uncovered deeper workflow, accessibility, and communication challenges across campuses.

While many discussion points helped shape product decisions, these were some of the key questions that guided the overall research direction.

Research revealed that most operational challenges were not isolated issues but connected system gaps.

Students struggled with navigation confidence and accessing relevant campus resources, while staff lacked centralized workflows and actionable visibility into campus operations.

The research highlighted that operational inefficiencies and accessibility barriers were deeply interconnected across the campus ecosystem.

These insights helped define a unified platform focused on:
